Garlic

I believe garlic has natural antibacterial properties which is why it is so good for us. In my opinion anything is good if it makes you flare as long as you can tolerate the flare and are detoxing.

definitely agree with you… Raw garlic is a natural antibiotic for sure!

Bicarbonate soda for Detox

Baking Soda: Sodium Bicarbonate

BY BECKI ON JULY 22, 2011

I read that a recommendation for the herx reaction is Alka Seltzer Gold. It’s thought that its having an alkalizing impact on the blood is good for herx.

Meanwhile, I’ve become recently aware that I don’t sweat as much as I ought to. Or perhaps my body heat doesn’t rise as much as it ought to. No matter the reason, on hot and humid days I am often dry as a bone …. maybe a couple of droplets where my hairline and forehead converge.

I did a lot of reading and found that baking soda is a good remedy for this. There were people with hypohidrosis who also had acid reflux. They used baking soda for the reflux and found that they started to sweat a bit more.

I read more and more about baking soda. It is touted as an answer to cancer. Supposedly, it alkalizes the blood and this remedies blood vessel constriction. This helps oxygen circulate through the blood stream. Cancer doesn’t fare as well in oxygenated blood.

There is a whole school of people who drink small amounts of baking soda in water each day, trying to reap the benefits of a better blood pH.

It is also reputed to assist people with internal candida overgrowth. I’ve long suspected this to be a problem for me after spending soooo many months on heavy doses of antibiotics. In this way, it is also supposed to help people with bloating. (And I’m getting pretty bloated from the salt, but I was a bit bloated already …. I’m hoping it will relieve what ever the initial problem was/is).

I have started doing it. I can’t say I’ve experienced a parting of the heavens in the past three days, but …. I am sweating a tiny bit more.

Should you give it a try, remember that too much baking soda can kill you! Use it in moderation. “Less is more.” Not “more is more.”

For alkalizing the blood, you should do:

1/4 teaspoon in 1/2 a glass of water – once in the morning and once before bedtime.

(*NB: This is baking SODA NOT baking POWDER*)

For more info, here are a couple of interesting links:

http://www.earthclinic.com/Remedies/alkalizing_formulas.html

And the one RE cancer:

(*There were several websites with this kind of information. Most sound kind of angry and paranoid about big pharmaceutical companies hiding this information, but …. it’s interesting nonetheless*)

Low secretary iga

(NaturalHealth365) Are you interested in naturally eliminating digestive problems? If so, then let’s look at ways to boost your immune system by balancing secretory IgA – which protects you from infections.

Every mucosal membrane surface such as the eyes, nose, throat and intestinal system represent a large portal of entry for pathogenic bacteria, viruses and yeasts. The body’s immune system utilizes a combination attack through innate mechanisms and acquired adaptations.

The innate immune response includes mucus formation, lactoferrin, lysozymes and cytokinetic inflammatory activity. The acquired system produces anti-bodies with the primary mucosal antibody being secretory IgA.

This antibody response is one of the most critical component to protecting the body against parasitic dominance.

Secretory IgA is the secreted form of an antibody in the blood called IgA. IgA is produced in the blood, taken into the gut, secreted across the mucosal lining into that mucous layer that is the surface lining of our digestive tract. It is the mucosal immune barrier or first line immune defense.

SIgA lies within the mucosal membrane of the entire digestive tract as well as our lungs, sinuses, eyes, urethra and vagina. It plays a significant role in neutralizing various pathogens like viruses, Candida, bacteria, protozoa and hemoliths.

The health problems associated with low SIgA levels

When SIgA is elevated it indicates an acute immune reaction within the gut. This could indicate an acute bacterial or parasitic infection. When s IgA is low it indicates an overall deficiency of this immune chemical. When this is low on a stool test the individual will also express food allergens, have elevated Candida yeast and have dysbiosis or abnormal bacterial balance in their gut.

Individuals with chronic gut problems, IBS, Candida, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis and autism typically have low SIgA. This is a sign of chronic stress in the body that has drained the immune system and the adrenals. Chronic infections, environmental toxins, poor lifestyle could all be the major causes behind this.

How to naturally balance your SIgA levels

The first step to increase (or decrease) SIgA naturally is to use an anti-inflammatory diet. The most common food allergens include all grains, pasteurized dairy, soy products, eggs, nuts and high-sugar fruits. Utilizing intermittent fasting strategies and going 18-20 hours of fasting with only clean water, herbal teas, organic broths and light fermented beverages each day is highly recommended.

An advanced bone broth fast with organic, grass-fed beef bones and loads of garlic and onions can be extremely effective at helping the gut to reseal and boost SIgA levels. This should be a 10-14 day fast if the levels are severely low and 3-7 day if they are more moderate.

It is important to provide the gut and the immune system with the key nutrients they need such as vitamin C, zinc, selenium, glutamine, choline, glycine, glutathione and essential fatty acids among other things. A whole food based multi-vitamin without any filling agents such as magnesium stearate is very helpful.

Using non-denatured whey protein from grass-fed cows will boost glutamine and glutathione levels and is easily absorbed into the body. It is highly recommended if the individual can tolerate it. If they have allergenic reactions to whey than use a hypoallergenic protein powder made up of sprouted hemp and pea protein.

Great ways to naturally raise your SIgA levels

There are a few things that boost Secretory IgA levels naturally. Colostrum is an immunoglobulin blast that is secreted from mom’s breast in the early stages of breast feeding. Colostrum is loaded with antibodies that stimulate SIgA levels. Fermented dairy from 100% grass-fed cows is loaded with acidophilus, bacillus and saccharomyces boulardii species of probiotics that all help to stimulate S IgA levels.

Beta Glucans are polysaccharide fibers that are considered biological response modifiers because of their ability to activate the immune system. They help boost the production of SIgA. These are found in the highest concentration in different types of mushrooms such as reishi, shiitake and maitake. Cayenne pepper also has the ability to stimulate B-lymphocytes into manufacturing more SIgA.

How can I naturally lower SIgA?

Elevated SIgA is a sign of an acute infection and the immune system is running on high. Using an anti-inflammatory diet that includes the bone broth fast described above is especially helpful. One can also take systemic enzymes and high dose probiotics to help modulate the immune system. Essential fats from a high quality fish oil and grass-fed meat products are extremely critical as well.

Fermented vegetables load the body up with enzymes, probiotics, organic acids and highly bioavailable nutrients that raise SIgA levels. Other herbs such as turmeric, basil, oregano, garlic and thyme are especially helpful. Fermented herbal botanicals, apple cider vinegar, coconut kefir and kombucha should be used as well.

How long does it take to boost SIgA?

Secretory IgA is generally an indication of the immune system in the gut which is our first line immune defense and it is called the mucosal barrier. When the gut is damaged and leaky it causes chronic stress and poor healing. The faster the chronic stressors are removed the faster the individual will get well. The average period is a good four to six month process for complete healing to take place.

In some cases, it may even take years to finally get SIgA levels up to normal.

The variable in all accounts is the individuals’ unique healing process. Many individuals have a severe leaky gut and are loaded with Candida, viral infections, worms and other parasites and also have heavy metals and industrial toxins as well as physical stressors such as poor posture and breathing habits. These individuals are challenging because they must correct each of these imbalances. The longer each of these challenges persists it will contribute to the formation of other stressors and keep the adrenals weak and tired.

The faster we can get the gut healed and restored and use a ketogenic style, anti-inflammatory diet that is loaded with fermented foods the faster the body will be able to detoxify and restore healthy function to the gut, liver and adrenals.

Please note: Intermittent water fasting is one of the best strategies for boosting our healing potential.

Glutamine

Aiding recovery after surgery

Glutamine is also known to have various side effects in reducing healing time after operations. Hospital-stay times after abdominal surgery can be reduced by providing parenteral nutrition regimens containing high amounts of glutamine to patients. Clinical trials have revealed patients on supplementation regimens containing glutamine have improved nitrogen balances, generation of cysteinyl-leukotrienes from polymorphonuclear neutrophil granulocytes, and improved lymphocyte recovery and intestinal permeability (in postoperative patients), in comparison to those that have no glutamine within their dietary regimen, all without any side effects.[13]

Glutamine (abbreviated as Gln or Q) is one of the 20 amino acids encoded by the standard genetic code. It is not recognized as an essential amino acid, but may become conditionally essential in certain situations, including intensive athletic training or certain gastrointestinal disorders.[citation needed] Its side-chain is an amide formed by replacing the side-chain hydroxyl of glutamic acid with an amine functional group, making it the amide of glutamic acid. Its codons are CAA and CAG. In human blood, glutamine is the most abundant free amino acid, with a concentration of about 500–900 µmol/l.[2]

Bee Venom Therapy For Lyme Disease

Bee Venom Treatment for Lyme Disease

Dr. Klinghardt uses 0.5 ml Bee-venom form Canada (Michael Simics) in 2.5 ml Procaine and injects 0.5 ml procaine in tender spot subcutaneously into the skin. It is relatively painless and has an incredible effect in his Lyme Disease patients.

In some it lasts for 2 days and in others for 3-4 days. Dependent on the response he establishes a schedule: shots every 2-3 days. The client then learns to do their own injections and otherwise follow the bee venom protocol that we have (bee sting kit etc.). Patients start to feel much better very soon, their depression and fatigue lifts, then their pain. It appears to be a great benefit!

Soon the gaps between shots increase until maybe once every 19 days for maintanance in severe cases. If it doesnt work, Babesia or Ehrlichiosis, Chlamydia pneumoniae, etc is the primary diagnosis that needs to be treated.

He also uses a Lyme disease specific transfer factor that is available from Chisholm Biological Labs 803-663-9618 X9777.

Below is an interesting study on the powerful effects of bee venom on Lyme Disease:

Clin Infect Dis 1997 Jul;25 Suppl 1:S48-51

The antimicrobial agent melittin exhibits powerful in vitro inhibitory effects on the Lyme disease spirochete.

Lubke LL, Garon CF

Rocky Mountain Laboratories Microscopy Branch, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, National Institutes of Health, Hamilton, Montana 59840, USA.

Borrelia burgdorferi has demonstrated a capacity to resist the in-vitro effects of powerful eukaryotic and prokaryotic metabolic inhibitors. However, treatment of laboratory cultures on Barbour-Stoenner-Kelly medium with melittin, a 26-amino acid peptide contained in honeybee venom, showed immediate and profound inhibitory effects when they were monitored by darkfield microscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy, and optical density measurements.

Furthermore, at melittin concentrations as low as 100 microg/mL, virtually all spirochete motility ceased within seconds of inhibitor addition. Ultrastructural examination of these spirochetes by scanning electron microscopy revealed obvious alterations in the surface envelope of the spirochetes. The extraordinary sensitivity of B. burgdorferi to mellitin may provide both a research reagent useful in the study of selective permeability in microorganisms and important clues to the development of effective new drugs against lyme disease.

I have been using bee venom for my lyme for about three years now. It has been an absolute staple in my treatment process and I wouldn’t give it up for the world. The benefits I receive from this therapy are extraordinary and I am also able to be autonomous in my use of the therapy, meaning free from the medical system to use it. Bee venom is active against the spirochete that causes lyme, the protein called mellittin is the active agent that makes this natural remedy an antibacterial, but the benefits for people with the lyme complex doesn’t stop there. The most prominent benefit I personally receive is the extra energy the venom gives me. I like to call it nature’s crack because It helps with fatigue so much! It is a potent painkiller and natural anti-inflamatory which is obviously helpful for the pain and arthritis symptoms that lyme can cause. It is also reportedly a natural mood elevator and has antidepressant qualities. All around this therapy is 100% worth the energy it takes to get set up and start using it. The set up is what takes the time, but once you train yourself and have your supplies you are free to treat yourself indefinitely. It is also feasible to maintain long term treatment with venom because it is not harmful to your system, unless of course you are allergic to bee venom. I am not a physician and am not giving medical advice, this is simply information that I have acquired in my personal journey through lyme disease that I hope will be useful to others.

What is involved in starting Bee Venom therapy?

1.Read about it and educate yourself! You must carefully and gradually ramp up on the dosage, it is a process.

http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2000/07/23/bee-venom-lyme.aspx

www.beevenom.com

2. Find a physician, natural or allopathic, who is willing to go through the initial process, prescibe it for you, test against allergy, and teach you how to inject yourself. This also means you need to be able to inject yourself (have the stomach for it) or have a loved one who is willing to learn it and do it for you three times a week. I much prefer to be self sufficient and do it myself! It is much more convenient this way in the long run.

3. Gather your supplies:

  • Prescription
  • Needles, 1.0 cc 29 gauge
  • Venom, venex forte or venex
  • How to manual from    www.beevenom.com
  • Pure acetone and cotton balls
  • Epipen, in case of anaphalaxis
  • Procaine or Lidocaine,Preservative free

4. Get on a schedule three days a week. I did Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays. Make sure you have the manual from www.beevenom.com and learn how to slowly ramp up with one bee sting up to five, and properly mix the venom and procaine or lidocaine.

You must obtain the venom, you can do this using live bees and maintain a hive so they are available to you. This route circumvents the medical system entirely, but it is a timely and energetic endeavor, and it is painful!

I personally obtain my venom from a harvester who is an expert in his field. You can check out his website and get the venom from www.beevenom.com. The venom is harvested and put into homeopathic remedy viles which you use a needle to draw your venom from. You do need a prescription for your first order, that way the doctor can test you against an allergic reaction, and safely prescribe you the venom. However, once you obtain your prescription and KNOW you are not allergic, you can be taught to give yourself the injections.

I asked my pain management doctor if he would be willing to do all of this for me several years ago, and because I have been in so much pain, he agreed to try this alternative therapy on me. When you do the injections, you mix the venom with a numbing agent called lidocaine or procaine, which must be preservative free. You need a script for the venom, numbing agent, and for the needles. You also need to purchase pure acetone from a beauty supply store like Sally’s. You clean your skin and the bottles before injecting the venom with acetone because alcohol will render the venom inactive and it cannot be used. The doctor you choose can teach you how to do “subcutaneous” injections on yourself. The needle is very thin and is inserted just beneath the skin, to me it is relatively painless procedure. If you have lyme brain and fatigue, this may seem like a lot, but once again I tell you, from my experience with this natural remedy, it is worth it. I believe this therapy has played a role in keeping the degeneration that lyme can cause at bay in my system, and it has helped me to maintain a better energy level. I can accomplish more and get a boost of energy if I am really fatigued. At first, I did the injections three times a week, and now I do them twice a week as a maintenance program.

Candida

Candida is a fungus that normally inhabits the mouth, throat, gastrointestinal tract and vagina. Under normal conditions, candida exists within us in a healthy balance, and the body’s immune system keeps it from spreading.  When your immune system is strong, candida yeasts presents no problem.  But, if you have a poor and sugary diet, nutritional deficiencies, exposure to toxins and stress and/or take antibiotics or other medications the good bacteria that prevent fungal infections from developing can get knocked out.  Candida yeasts then multiply and further weaken the immune system.

Symptoms of Candida

Feelings of frustration and loneliness are common when dealing with a yeast overgrowth because Candida is evasive to much of the medical community. Here are some of the common symptoms:
• Gas, bloating and indigestion
• Bowel irregularities, constipation or diarrhea
• Food cravings especially for carbohydrates or sweets
• Mood swings or depression
• Headaches or migraines
• Menstrual problems and PMS
• Dry, itchy skin or hives
• Finger or toe nail fungus
• Vaginal yeast infections
• Itching or redness in body creases
• Chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia
• Weight imbalances (over or under-weight despite diet)
• Premature aging
• Chemical sensitivity (especially colognes or fabric dye)

What You Can Do to Fight Candida – Probiotics For Candida

Probiotics will help reduce Candida overgrowth. Our Adult Formula CP-1 capsules and our Six-Strain Custom Probiotic powder are being used extensively by Candida patients with remarkable results. Dosage differs from person to person. The greater the imbalance, the higher the dosage that may be required to overcome Candida. PLEASE CLICK HERE FOR COMPLETE DOSAGE SUGGESTIONS.

Dietary Changes in Reducing Candida

Changing your diet is also recommend to control the Candida. Your diet should exclude fruit, sugar and yeast. Especially in the beginning of the treatment you have to be very strict and disciplined. If you cheat you’ll feel the effect of the Candida “monster”.

Anti-fungal agents can also be used. The major anti-fungal prescription medications are Nystatin, Diflucan, Nizoral and Sporanox. Natural antifungal and antibacterial agents are garlic, olive leaf extract, oil of oregano, pau d’arco, uva ursi, golden seal, caprylic acid and citrus seed extract. Fibers such as flaxseed powder and psyllium husk are also beneficial.

Balancing Act

Generally speaking, proper diet, high potency and quality multi-strain probiotics and natural anti-fungal agents are essential in the prevention, control and elimination of Candida.
As the intestinal and vaginal microflora become balanced, you can tolerate a greater variety of foods. If you think you might have symptoms of Candida overgrowth, consult a health care practitioner who is familiar with this condition. Other conditions have similar manifestations. Self-diagnosis and self-treatment may cause these conditions to be overlooked.

You wouldn’t exactly call chlorella an overnight success. The health benefits of the green algae that grows in freshwater ponds in the Far East have so far been limited to those in the know, and its progress to British medicine cabinets has been slow. Since it became available in tablet form in the UK three years ago, it has achieved an almost cultish appreciation as a superfood, but now scientific research could catapult it into the mainstream.

New research from Japan suggests that this green algae could be effective in fighting major lifestyle diseases. It has been shown to reduce body-fat percentage and blood-glucose levels and help those suffering from Type 2 diabetes, obesity or heart disease. Its benefits include boosting energy, aiding digestion and fighting depression.

What excited the scientists, including the notable Carnegie Institute in Washington DC, was that this green algae proved to be almost a dream food. It is packed with protein – twice as much as spinach – and about 38 times the quantity of soybeans, and 55 times that of rice. It also contains nine essential amino acids, as well as vitamins and minerals.

These are the latest in a long line of health claims – ranging from boosting the immune system in cancer patients to improving the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome.

Chlorella is a tiny, unicellular green algae, three to eight micrometres in diameter, which when grown in large quantities in South East Asia and Australia gives lakes and rivers a green tint. Before being used as a supplement, it must be gathered, dried to a paste, crushed to a fine emerald green powder, and converted to tiny, soft, crumbly tablets, which smell vaguely of the sea.

Although chlorella was discovered by a Dutch microbiologist in 1890 and studied as a potential protein source by German scientists, it wasn’t until after the Second World War that the reality of food shortages, combined with the expectation of a population boom, led to bureaucrats globally examining chlorella in the hope that it could be used to feed the masses cheaply – this proved uneconomic. Later, NASA studied it with a view to feeding it to astronauts, and perhaps growing it on space stations.

It is currently being used in the UK to help cancer patients. Nadia Brydon, senior therapist in complementary medicine at Breast Cancer Haven, the charity that supplies integrated health care to support women with breast cancer, is convinced it is an important food source with many health benefits.

“So many of us eat a calorie-dense, nutrionally-deficient diet that it is no wonder we’re all getting sick and tired all the time,” she says.

Nadia says chlorella is a great way of taking on magnesium, which can be found in green vegetables. “Magnesium is one of nature’s antidepressants and helps us cope with stress. One of our best sources is from chlorophyll in green plants – and chlorella is bursting with that,” she says.

Nadia also believes chlorella is highly protective against toxins. “We are bombarded with chemicals in pesticides and fungicides; chlorella helps to get them out of the body. It is a fantastic detoxifier and deodorant.”

Tests have shown that chlorella stimulates the growth of probiotic or friendly bacteria, and its cell walls absorb toxins within the intestine and encourage peristalsis – the muscular contraction that moves material through the bowels – preventing constipation and toxic material in the stool being reabsorbed into the bloodstream.

As it is a natural food, chlorella is safe for most people to take; but one exception seems to be those who are prescribed warfarin. This is because chlorella contains vitamin K1, which is important in helping blood clotting – the very opposite of warfarin, which acts as an anticoagulant.

But it’s not just the alternative medicine fraternity who are fans. Prof Randall Merchant, professor of Neurosurgery and Anatomy at Virginia Commonwealth University, in the US, has been involved in research into brain tumours, traumatic brain injury, and stroke. In 1986, he began clinical trials, funded by chlorella producer Sun Chlorella ‘A’, into whether the algae might boost a patient’s immune system.

“Fascinating,” is how he describes the results. “It didn’t make brain tumours go away or shrink, so it didn’t cure the cancer, but it did help the patients by boosting their immune system so that they resisted opportunistic infections.”

Since then, Prof Merchant has performed clinical trials to test whether chlorella could be useful in helping with chronic conditions such as fibromyalgia, ulcerative colitis and hypertension. In the first two trials, his team found that “patients’ symptoms diminished quite nicely”. For hypertension, the results were more dramatic; while it lowered blood pressure in about 50 per cent of cases, which was promising, the studies showed that it also significantly lowered serum cholesterol.

In 2008, he examined the effects chlorella has on those with metabolic syndrome – the collection of symptoms that often lead to the cells in our bodies becoming less sensitive to insulin, and therefore a precursor to diabetes.

Prof Merchant says: “It seems that chlorella turns on the genes that control the way insulin is normally used by the cells in the body. This research shows that chlorella could in theory help correct the problems of metabolic syndrome. It is not a magic bullet, but taking it is one other preventive thing you can do, like exercise or watching your diet.”
